Confession: I went overboard on a recent trip to Tokyo and bought hoards of matcha tea powders. Do I regret it? Absolutely not!!! I LOVE everything matcha and green tea! It's everywhere there! So now that I'm settled back home I decided to try the powders out.
For reference I had never use matcha powder before and had only had matcha when I ordered out. As a result it took some studying before I realized how to actually use it. Initially I thought you just use it like any instant powder. But when I poured the boiling water in, the powder didn't dissolve. It just floated around until it settled back into the bottom of the cup. It wasn't until I returned home that I learned there are some require tools to make matcha tea. First a bamboo whisk to mix the matcha, and then the bowl to mix it in. Second I learned the matcha is ready when it becomes frothy and foamy on top. Third you should never pour boiling water over the matcha powder. It burns it! After figuring those things out and doing a bit more research I decided to use a hand milk frother instead of the bamboo whisk to mix the tea. It was surprisingly easy so assuming you have at least these tools down here is a basic recipe for making a matcha latte.
This recipe is super easy. Looking forward to seeing what else I can put matcha in. I'm thinking smoothies, desserts, and pastries next!
I love of all things beauty, skincare, health, food, travel, inspiration, and design.
